MAE WEST, ANYONE?

One of Salvador Dali's accomplishments was a wood and satin sofa known as The Mae West Lips Sofa (1937).  It's become ubiquitous in the furniture world, and also been replicated as a mini-furniture piece.  I acquired mine from the Dali Theatre-Museum while visiting Spain this summer.  It's a hoot:

It's made of a velvety-type cloth as plush as the referenced lips!

TENNESSEE YELLOW!

So the last of the three chairs I purchased in Oregon actually came from Tennessee -- this metal chair painted in pale yellow and with a "distressed" effect.  Made by Creative Co-Op of Memphis. I find it charming:

SITTING WITH OWLS!

Here's a chair I really wished was carved from wood, instead of just looking like it is, uh, carved from wood:

It's a really nifty image, right?  That's why I got it even though it's only made from resin.  Besides, I was in Ashland in a very good mood from partaking of Oregon's Shakespeare Festival and that only made me too open to helping out the local economy, hah.  Here's a detail shot:

I am sure we will find a sagacious mini-book to sit with these owls!

THE DOLL ARTIST'S CHAIR

Visiting gorgeous Oregon for its annual Shakespeare Festival allowed me to pick up a lovely mini chair by Selma's "Doll Artist" Nancy Hall.  Here's what the little flyer said about her works: "Her dolls have been shown in the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads Master catalog, Soft Dolls and Animals Magazine, Art Doll Quarterly and featured in Doll Costumers and Crafters Magazine. She has won numerous awards for her work including the Hoffman Challenge First Place Doll Award in 2011 as well as having her dolls tour nationally with the Hoffman Challenge." Here is her hand-crafted addition to SitWithMoi's Chairs Collection:

GETTING BENCHED!

I love this miniature concrete bench!  It's obviously meant for the outdoors, so I position it here in front of scenes from Yellowstone and Grand Teton visits!

THE FRAGILITY OF EXISTE... RATTAN

This small rattan chair was part of the "Ebay 30-now-25" acquisition.  It had a twin which I let go when I deaccessioned the smaller chairs.  I kept this one because one of its legs was cut off -- so I thought to keep this special limb-different child chair with Moi.  I wasn't sure I'd ever find a book to "shelve" on it because it's so small and fragile -- but (as I will show in a forthcoming post; UPDATE: post is HERE) -- I did find such a book, and now the chair is happily preening amidst the rest of the chairs in the collection.

BUT OF COURSE! A LIBRARY CHAIR!

As soon as I saw this "library chair" -- a chair that turns into a ladder -- I knew it'd be perfect for SitWithMoi and "Books on Chairs"!  So, I acquired it!  Here's the chair evolving into a ladder:

SWING WITH MOI!

I couldn't resist this iron mini reproduction of a "Swingasan" described as "Part cozy Papasan, part carefree porch swing"!

The "Swingasan" is being marketed as a phone holder, but obviously has other uses (a tiny stuffed animal was lazing on a display piece).

Anyway, I just know there's a mini-book out there lookin' to swing!

SILLA CON 'RED LIPSTICK'!

Rocio just returned from Mexico and brought me back a chair encased in lipstick red!  I love it!

Do notice the doubling of the image viz the mirror.  Kind of like lips ...

It's also a brand new chair so its woven rope seat kinda shoots up in the middle, which is how it is until it becomes flatter from having received numerous sit-downs ... which is to say, it's looking for a book to be shelved atop or sit on it!  We'll work on that!

This is another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisitions.  Actually, I just deaccessioned some chairs (too tiny for moi porpoises) from that group so it's more like "Ebay 25" now.  But I kept this little lovely:

A COUPLE OF PEACOCKS!

I saw these Peacock rattan chairs, with side-table/stool/coffee table, and couldn't resist adding them to SitWithMoi's chair collection.  So iconic ... and  nifty!

THE EX-NAPKIN HOLDER

I believe this "vintage" metal chair was intended to be a napkin holder.  But I brought it home for SitWithMoi coz I like it:

To be a poet is also to decontextualize.  I'm sure this chair will hold a mini-book as well as it would capture a rolled napkin within the round metal catch on its back.

It's the right size, so I couldn't resist this armchair in the style of a Philippe Starck "ghost chair" (do ignore the fish bawling it out for usurping my affection):

STITCH ALONG WITH MOI!

And another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisition is a sewing chair!  I love it for reminding me of moi Mama.  And because I often think that, as a poet, I don't write words so much as stitch them together ...

Welcome, Little Sewing Chair!  Whenever I see you, I think of Mom stitching many a hem for me.  As she was doing in this photo ... before I interrupted her to inflict one of moi books on her:

THE CARROT CHAIR

And I'm delighted to present another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisition.  This is a wooden, painted chair featuring (inexplicably to me but why not?) a bunch of carrots flattened to be the chair's back:

And why am I delighted to present this chair?  Because, while larger than my targeted 1:6 scale, its scale allows me to include some larger (than 2" x 2") mini-books, specifically a group of David Larsen's poetry chapbooks:

When I first moved from New York City to the Bay Area more than a decade ago, the move allowed me to meet some of the innovative poets living in Northern California, including David Larsen.  I was delighted to be a recipient of some of his handmade chaps, and will be posting individually on his publications as I "shelve" them in the future.  For now, let us just welcome the chair whose scale allows us to include these David Larsen chaps!

The hubby grew up with various Eames chairs about the family house, and so he was pleased to buy the following Eames-inspired chair for SitWithMoi's collection:

THE BEAR CHAIR!

This is another acquisition through "Ebay 30" purchase -- it's sweet:

I don't know much about most of the chairs in "Ebay 30" but saw an image of this one in the internet--it seems to be a #17168 Russ Berrie Miniature Furniture" (whatever that is).  Anyway, pleased to have this one ... plus I like teddy bears!
