THE FRAGILITY OF EXISTE... RATTAN

This small rattan chair was part of the "Ebay 30-now-25" acquisition.  It had a twin which I let go when I deaccessioned the smaller chairs.  I kept this one because one of its legs was cut off -- so I thought to keep this special limb-different child chair with Moi.  I wasn't sure I'd ever find a book to "shelve" on it because it's so small and fragile -- but (as I will show in a forthcoming post; UPDATE: post is HERE) -- I did find such a book, and now the chair is happily preening amidst the rest of the chairs in the collection.

Love those happy endings!

A THIN TWIG CHAIR

Here's another chair that was part of the "Ebay 30-now-25" acquisitions -- a carefully-designed chair from twigs with a woven seat:

ORNATE METAL

This is another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisitions.  Actually, I just deaccessioned some chairs (too tiny for moi porpoises) from that group so it's more like "Ebay 25" now.  But I kept this little lovely:

RUSH RUSH!

And another group from the "Ebay 30" acquisition is a pair of rockers with rush seats!

The longer bench features a hand-crocheted throw by moi good pal Sandy!  Thanks Sam!

THE CARROT CHAIR

And I'm delighted to present another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisition.  This is a wooden, painted chair featuring (inexplicably to me but why not?) a bunch of carrots flattened to be the chair's back:

And why am I delighted to present this chair?  Because, while larger than my targeted 1:6 scale, its scale allows me to include some larger (than 2" x 2") mini-books, specifically a group of David Larsen's poetry chapbooks:

When I first moved from New York City to the Bay Area more than a decade ago, the move allowed me to meet some of the innovative poets living in Northern California, including David Larsen.  I was delighted to be a recipient of some of his handmade chaps, and will be posting individually on his publications as I "shelve" them in the future.  For now, let us just welcome the chair whose scale allows us to include these David Larsen chaps!

THE BEAR CHAIR!

This is another acquisition through "Ebay 30" purchase -- it's sweet:

I don't know much about most of the chairs in "Ebay 30" but saw an image of this one in the internet--it seems to be a #17168 Russ Berrie Miniature Furniture" (whatever that is).  Anyway, pleased to have this one ... plus I like teddy bears!

A CHEERFUL ROCKER!

And also among the "Ebay 30" acquisition is this cheerfully-painted rocker!  Cheer is always welcome!

A CHAIR FOR LIGHT

And another chair addition through "Ebay 30" is this black metal chair.  I suspect it once was used as a candle-holder, an element I like as that means I should ensure that the book that will be "shelved" on it must be one that, in its own way, throws off light!

RED AND WHITE ROCKS!

Here's another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisitions -- a sweet rocking chair covered by a red-and-white fabric:

It's also smaller than my targeted 1:6 scale, which means it'll require another half-inch x half-inch size book.  Any authors out there for this chair?

THE CHARMING ENOUGH CHAIR

And here's another chair from the "Ebay 30" acquisition that will allow me to welcome mini-books larger than the targeted 2" x 2" size cap:

Let Moi reveal a perverse sense of humor by saying this chair reminds her of Pres. Obama's unfortunate remark to Hillary Clinton: "You're charming enough..."   Ah: the spectacle of political campaigns ...!

THE MOST SIMPLE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL: A SHAKER CHAIR

The Shakers were among the very first in America to engage in the business of producing chairs on a large scale. They sold their first chairs at New Lebanon, New York in 1789. During the nineteenth century, they made many refinements in design and proportion, because of their belief that the most simple things are the most beautiful.

From the "Ebay 30" acquisition comes this lovely Shaker slat back chair -- I am so pleased to have it!

It's just lovely, isn't it?  I love its lines, the seat ... just love it!

TWIGS WITH HEART

"You make what you are. Because simple rustic furniture can be built with a minimum of formal woodworking skill, it could be said to be a translucent and sometimes transparent window into its maker.... The selection of woods, and the arrangement, the assembly, and even the intended use of a rustic chair tells more about the person who made it than it does about trees or furniture. A rigid person is likely to produce a straight conventional piece, while a more flexible one will explore the possibilities of wood shapes more freely."
--from "Creating Rustic Twig Furniture From Natural Wood" by Daniel Mack, Mother Earth News, Jan./Feb. 1987

And another thing "Ebay 30" allows is for Moi to include the twig heart chair, ubiquitous in folk art and/or Americana circles -- specifically, two: a twig heart rocker

and a twig heart chair

Here's a side view:

I don't think it'll be difficult to find mini-books to shelve on these chairs, mini-books which will have as much heart as the chairs...and their makers.

BUKOWSKI'S WOODEN CHAIR

Among the "Ebay 30" addition to SitWithMoi's Chair Collection are a few chairs larger than the targeted 1:6 scale.  I don't mind as this allows me to include some books that are also larger than the targeted 2" x 2" mini-book scale.  Here is one of the chairs:

Partly because of the chair's girth, I'm calling it "Bukowski's Wooden Chair" after the, um, girth-full American poet Charles Bukowski.  It also specifically allows Moi to welcome a rare collectible: one of Charles Bukowski's Black Sparrow Press' chaps -- a subject of the next post.

A ROBUST METAL CHAIR

Delighted to welcome this robust metal chair, also a member of the "Ebay 30," as I've decided to call the group of chairs the hubby ordered from Ebay:

Why "robust"?  The welding just struck Moi that way.  Can't wait to "shelve" a book on it to soften it up!

[Prov.: Ebay. Size: 5" height and 2.5" width]

DIRECT MOI!

Well, SitWithMoi's chair collection (will update that link soon) increased by 30 chairs today, courtesy of an Ebay purchase by the hubby.  Thank you, hubby!  They come in a variety of styles and sizes, not all of which actually fit my desired 1:6 scale.  But it's just as well since I was running out of chairs for the mini-books and the mini-books sometimes arrive larger than the targeted 2" x 2" scale.  Here's the first chair from this Ebay grouping -- a "Director's Chair," which I suspect will be a useful addition:

I'm particularly happy to get these chairs since yesterday was also a big day for snailmail as I received five mini-books!  Thank you, William Allegrezza!  Yes, folks, you can send more than one mini-book for shelving on SitWithMoi's chairs!

[Prov.: Ebay. Size: 4" height and 2" width]
